Mix Tape 03

Last time I saw Nohaptimus Prime (a.k.a. Noah Keating) we were sipping supermodel cocktails in his American Brewery Loft apartment in Boston’s upscale Jamaica Plains neighborhood. Not fully unpacked from a recent relocation from sunny southern California, his red-brick walled room was lined with records still in boxes, bubble-wrapped synthesizers, stacks of books, crates, amps, and kitchen supplies. In the center of the room was one of those tiny circular-shaped exercise trampolines that the four of us would in turn spontaneously jump on and bust out a 5-minute dance routine. We talked Nietzsche and Dance Dance Revolution. The only album I can vividly recall spinning on the turntable was The Flying Lizards. But one peep of this mix and you know Noah’s got deep crates and mad skills.

Mix Tape 02

Moon Daddy. Part II, or is it Volume II? You mid-30’s stoners are really gonna get off on that Cheech and Chong skit at the intro. What happened to Tommy Chong? Can we get him back on T.V. somehow? Didn’t they do a VH-1 “Where Are They Now: Tommy Chong”? Remember the scene where he picks up some shit off the ground in the desert and calls it peote?

Mix Tape 01

Here is Mix tape 01 for your listening pleasure. It’s low fi, raw and might make you want to shout boomshakalak. Big thanks to Stone for finding this gem of a mix tape. He’ll be posting track info up here very soon…won’t you Stone?!

This should be played with a internal organ rupturing Notting Hill Sub woofer…

STONES SAYS:

Moon Daddy. Moonlight Sound. Moon Daddy Sound System. Whatever moniker you’ve stumbled across, you no doubt have encountered the work of a dedicated reggae and dub archivist from the small town of Tochigi in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

This sampling is the first side of a 60-minute tape released by Moon Daddy three years ago at an underground dub party in Utsunomiya city. It’s been copied from tape to minidisc to hard drive. However many times copied and recopied, the original is not that far off the version available here. Enjoy it in all its gritty, blown out mixtape beauty.

Shout out to all of yas

Check check, is this thing on?

Ask us where we got our patience from. Living in Japan and studying Zen? Nah… It’s trying to get the electronic toys we buy with our hard earned cash to work. Got turntables? Yeah. Got a DJ? Yeah, we got Stone River on the decks. Now try recording it. To cut a long story short, four hours of beautiful tunes and mixing evaporated into digital oblivion last week as we tried to record our first sesson for Blow Your Speakers, a new site for our mix tapes, tunes and general ramblings. We were going to post today but as I just mentioned, the Buddha wasn’t having any of that and learning patience was the lesson of the day.

Still, undeterred, we will be remixing the remixes and sending them to you through the interconnected strings linking gramaphones all over the world.

Word around the camp fire, this internet thing could be big.

Stay tuned for tunes.
